More than 30 years of combined experience in business and lay leadership make Dick Young a valuable advisor to United Methodist churches. He possesses the ability and knowledge to help congregations identify their purpose and provide resources. He specializes in funding needs and design of stewardship strategies to equip churches to fulfill their missions.
Young’s career in the private sector as a business owner equipped him with skills in financial management, operations, personnel administration and negotiation. As a layperson, he served as chair of the finance, property and building committees at First United Methodist Church in Austin, where he has been a member for over 40 years. Young also worked as the church’s stewardship director for their 1999 capital stewardship program in which they raised $2.2 million.
During his 16 year Texas Methodist Foundation career, Young led over 60 capital stewardship programs throughout Texas. These programs included new buildings, renovations, and debt reduction. He views his work as an opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives by advancing God’s Kingdom and promoting the greater good of the local church. He believes stewardship is a vital element of our discipleship.
Young earned his Master of Business Administration from Texas State University in San Marcos and his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University. He was Lay Director for Walk to Emmaus 537.
He and his wife Ann have two children, Taylor and wife Grace, and daughter Clair,who resides in Plano with her children, True and Jaclyn.
